The already hyped Noida dual murder case had been moving hap-hazzardly before the case cracked. It had been a week since Arushi Talwar, 14 years old student of Delhi Public School, Noida found murdered in her bedroom at her L-32 Jalvayu Vihar home in Sector-25 in Noida last Friday.
However, there were no signs of a concrete conclusion till the time the police gave its verdict. Earlier, rumors were sent due to the misconception that she was murdered by the domestic help of the house, Hemraj. Thereafter, even Hemraj was found brutally murdered on the terrace of the house.
This dual murder case has left the whole country in deep discombobulation. It was after 183 hours that the case was cracked by the Noida police under a great pressure. It was none other than the father of the accused, Dr Rajesh Talwar(ACCORDING TO THE PERSONAL JUDGEMENT AND THE POLICE's VERDICT). He murdered his own daughter after killing Hemraj, as they both got into notice about his extra marital affair.
The irony is that Dr Nupur Talwar, wife of Dr Rajesh Talwar is defending him on the grounds that her husband is being framed.
'A father murdered his own daughter'; 'we have forgotten the societal norms'; 'we are aping to the west' are few of the tag lines given to the case by the media. Was the media influence good or bad for the case? Did it unfold the privacy, if the father was not the culprit? Had the case not been in the spotlight, would the police have had given the same verdict? Or, it could have been possible for Dr Rajesh Talwar, the culprit, to pay a high amount 'under the table'.
All the answers to these questions are based on personal judgment and the reason for these questions to arise is 'bureaucracy'. We are so much adapted to the fact that this country is full of bureaucracy and have learned to live in it.
To solve the case media personnel have done a great job. They prevent the culprit to make a nasty act. But, for sure, media do care about a million folds in terms of the TRP they get by highlighting what viewers would like to see.
They are busy highlighting the murder, and of course, they should. But, let us not forget the fact that two murders have taken place. Where is the hype about the murder of the domestic help?
We have had heard about the murder of a house owner by a domestic help, but the vice versa case has, at least, dumbfounded me. The society is skeptical about the murder of the help because media is, too. Why we are not hearing the tag lines of the case as 'Domestic help murdered by the owner'?
Last but not the least, people are discussing about the punishment Dr Rajesh Talwar should get. Some rest their opinion on capital punishment and some want him to be left in the hands of the public. But, in my opinion- Isn't it the biggest punishment for a father that his own daughter is no more?
This is the society we are living in. If we can't stand up and change it, then we have to be a silent observer and watch these kinds of incidences.
We dare to pass featherbrained comments colligated to the whole scene, but we don't do anything- neither for ourselves nor for the society. Wake up India, wake up.
